West African Djembe Drummer Returns to Lead Class at Adawehi Institute
Linda Powell, drumming teacher at Adawehi Institute, has announced that a world famous guest teacher will make a return visit to lead the drumming class Sunday, September 16, 2007, from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm.
West African master drummer and djembe superstar, Bolokada Conde, formerly lead drummer of Les Percussions de Guinea, a premier percussion ensemble, will teach this one-hour djembe class. The djembe, pronounced “JEM-bay,” has a deep bass resonance due to its rounded shape at the top and the extended tube-like shape at the bottom of the drum.
Known for his exciting international performances, Conde is also recognized as a patient teacher with a wealth of knowledge about West African drumming and culture. He is featured in the IMAX Movie Pulse: a STOMP Odyssey and on two CDs.
For information on how to enroll in this special class and to reserve a drum, call Linda Powell at 828-894-5207.
